At Counting Kilos, our mission is to empower individuals to achieve their fitness goals with accurate, science-based information. As a Ph.D. in Sport Physiology and Performance, I am passionate about combating the misleading information prevalent in the health, fitness, and nutrition industry. We strive to provide practical tips and personalized training programs that make fitness and healthy living accessible and enjoyable for everyone. About Me

Welcome to Counting Kilos! My name is Dr. Joe Walters, and I am passionate about helping others achieve their health and fitness goals through accurate, science-based information and practical advice. My journey in the field of health and fitness is deeply personal and professionally enriching, with a unique blend of formal education, practical experience, and personal transformation.


Educational Background:

  • Ph.D. in Sport Physiology and Performance from East Tennessee State University (2019)
  • M.S. in Exercise and Sport Nutrition from The University of Tampa (2016)
  • B.S. in Allied Health from The University of Tampa (2014)

Professional Experience:

  • Competed as a natural bodybuilder (2008-2014)
  • Worked as a personal trainer (2009-2016)
  • Trained MLB and NFL athletes in the private sector
  • Worked with clients of all ages and experience levels
  • Served as a Sport Scientist and Strength and Conditioning Coach for a college basketball team
  • Served in the United States Marine Corps (2001-2008)
  • Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Tampa, teaching exercise science

My journey began with my own struggles with weight, growing up as a chubby kid who faced challenges with body image and fitness. Through dedication and hard work, I transformed my body and mind, learning invaluable lessons along the way. This personal experience, combined with my extensive research on sport supplements, body composition, and muscle physiology, allows me to provide reliable and effective guidance to others.


What sets me apart from many other influencers is my formal education and hands-on experience. I’ve worked with elite athletes in professional sports, as well as individuals from all walks of life, helping them achieve their health, strength, and performance goals. My commitment to providing correct, science-based information stems from my frustration with the misleading information often found in the health and fitness industry.
